Electrical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, University of Medan Area held a Public Lecture event entitled “The Role of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in the Post-Pandemic World” on Saturday, June 27, 2020 through the Zoom application. Public Lecture was held in order to update science and improve the quality of Electrical Engineering Study Program, University of Medan Area.
The resource person of this Public Lecture is Ir. Sutjipto Utomo, M.Sc who is an alumni of the Electrical Engineering Study Program at the Medan Area University in 1993. The resource person currently works at the Hitachi, Japan representative office in Singapore. In accordance with his study and professional interests in producing Mass Flow Controller (MFC), he continues to develop his interest in the integration of electronics, mechanics, and software, and deals with robotics and artificial intelligence. The expertise of the resource persons is in accordance with the needs of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, University of Medan Area, which focuses on the field of power systems and control systems.
This public lecture was held for the public with 155 participants coming from universities throughout Indonesia, researchers, and alumni of the Electrical Engineering Study Program at the Medan Area University in the country and abroad. The program began with remarks and activity reports by moderator Syarifah Muthia Putri, ST, MT, remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Dr. Grace Yuswita Harahap, MT, and the opening ceremony by the Medan Area University Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng., M.Sc.
Robotics is an important topic that will become a human helper today. The guest speaker Ir. Sutjipto Utomo, M.Sc provides video capture robots and packaging products that show AI (Artificial Intelligent) in robotics can help human work. He also said that mechatronics which consists of electronics, mechanics, information technology plays a role in producing robotics. Predictive Maintenance (Machine Learning) can be used for electric power system applications, so devices in the power system can be repaired before a power outage occurs. This is very helpful in ensuring the quality of the electric power system.
In the face of the covid pandemic 19, robotics also takes an important role for humans. Social Distancing and cleanliness are mandatory for all communities. He delivered several examples of robotics that play a role in dealing with the covid pandemic 19, namely pneumonia detection, robotic microsurgery, robotics in restaurants, robot taxis, delivery robots, and others.
The public lecture program went well until the end of the whole series of events. All participants’ questions were answered clearly by the speakers and received good responses from participants in the public lecture. This public lecture was also a gathering place for the alumni of the Electrical Engineering Study Program at the Medan Area University by providing positive input for the Study Program.
